Why Does Food And Wine Need To Match At Dinner Parties?



In the year 1960 I was born in India. But curry was born before me. We were a sibling of six,and our main meal was curry every day. Curry was made in a large pot. You could say that our curry was more like a soup curry, and that the mountain of gravy in the pot was no more than two pieces of chicken or lamb meat for each person, because our curry was made with a lot of water and potato since these were dry days and the income of our household was not enough to give one BBQ in a whole year. There was only one pair of hands working in our family - only one breadwinner - and a lot of hands eating the meal as it was such a large family.

We arrive back at 'Kambro-kind' satiated and weary. It's been a long day. In the little guest lounge we have wine and reminisce over what we have seen and then turn in. The bed is firm and I smell lavender as I sink in.

Once you know which wine you want to serve your guests, it's time to research recipes! Depending on which wine you've chosen will dictate which foods you can serve. For example, white wines go best with seafood dishes as the light wine flavours refreshingly enhance the citrusy fish flavours. Whereas red wines are a match made in heaven for hearty, lean meats. cooking lamb shanks, casseroles and roast dinners are calling out for a warming, full bodied red to wash down with.

This lamb curry can be served as a side dish or as a main meal. A side dish of brown and wild rice will yield a complete protein, when combined with the beans in the curry. A favorite of mine is to eat it with soft, warm Naan bread.

What you get - Run by a true blue Malaysian, this restaurant offers you authentic Malaysian food and the owner is not high-nosed either. You will find him serving at some table or the other. The staff offers you a wet towel as soon as you are seated and that can be a refreshing thing to use. But once they hand over the leather bound menu, it is sure to read like Greek and Latin to most. So, like we did, you could take help from the captain or the person taking your orders.

Enjoying being off the beaten track we turn off at Dysselsdorp and head through curried lamb the Kammanassieberge down into Kleinplaat coming back into Knysna via Karatara and the Homtini Pass that drindles into the Phantom Pass bringing us out just by the White Bridge. The vistas are breathtaking!!

Domaine de Piaugier Sablet Cotes-du-Rhone Villages 2008: Although a bit less intense than the amazing 2007 predecessor, the Sablet continues to be terrific. The spicy red berry aroma is followed by dark fruit, coffee and light tannins on the palate. The finish is slightly smoky. This. Is. cooked lamb curry. Short. Ribs. $15.

Most likely you'll be really thirsty from eating all of that wonderful Indonesian food, so that have a large choice of beverages such as Es Teler Seger Bener which is avocado, young coconut, jackfruit, condensed milk, Sekoteng which is made with palm seed, bread, mungbean, milk and ginger and my favorite is the Soto Jasmine tea served cold. Of course if you desire a more traditional beverage, Tempo Doeloe also serves soft drinks, sweet tea and juices. Tempo Doeloe is opened Monday-Wednesday, closed on Thursdays's and opened again on Friday-Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 12 Midnight. The bottom-line: Family friendly, Great Indonesian Food, Price point from $4.00 to $8.00 for lunch or dinner.
